As many as 54,000 people from the Southern Italian city of Brindisi, on Sunday, were evacuated to defuse a World War II bomb. A Red Zone was set up by the authorities and citizens within the Red Zone were forced to vacate the same. A radius of 1,617 metres from where the bomb was discovered last month was cleared.

The British bomb believed to have had dropped on the city in 1941 is 1 metre long and contains 40 kg of Dynamite. It was found by chance during refurbishment works at a cinema theater.
