The ownership of your car may need to be changed if you sell it to someone in another state or move to a new one. Getting a fresh registration certificate in the new state and updating registration information are required steps in the transfer process.
When transferring ownership of your car across states, you have to abide by the laws and regulations of both places. Since every Indian state has its transportation agency, there may be minor variations in the transfer procedure from one state to the next.
To ensure a successful transfer, it is essential to be well-versed in the documentation needed and the detailed process of transferring automobile ownership.

Procedure For Transfer Of Vehicle Registration From One State To Another
There are stages involved in transferring your car’s registration from one state to another. To make sure the transfer goes smoothly and successfully, follow the steps listed below:
- Get NOC: Getting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in the state where your car is presently registered is the first step in moving it to a new state. Make sure that the chassis number is included in the NOC.
- Transporting Your Car To A New State: After receiving the NOC, go to the nearest RTO office in the state you have moved to. Make sure you have with you all the paperwork required for this procedure.
- Document Submission: Verify all information twice before submitting it to prevent any problems with the transfer procedure. This makes sure that your Registration Certificate transfers more easily.
- Pay The Road Tax Challan: You will get a new road tax challan from the RTO in your new state. To have your car validated, you must pay the appropriate costs.
- Verification Of The Car: An RTO officer will be present during the vehicle inspection. A print of the chassis number will be received for verification during this check.
- New RC Collection: Following the verification procedure, you will get information on the date of the transfer of your Registration Certificate (RC) to the new state.
