The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is gearing up to launch a new mobile app that will transform the way Aadhaar holders manage their details. A beta version of this app has been available since April and promises a more secure, user-friendly experience, removing the hassle of visiting physical centres for updates. Soon, changing your name, address, date of birth, or mobile number could be done right from your phone.
Simple and Secure Features
- The app introduces a smooth QR code-based authentication system. Users can scan the QR code with the app to share their Aadhaar ID safely and conveniently.
- Face ID authentication, powered by artificial intelligence, lets users verify their identity through a live selfie. The app instantly compares this selfie with the photo stored in the UIDAI database, eliminating the need to carry a physical card or photocopies.
- Virtual Aadhaar IDs can be created on the app, enabling quick access and secure sharing of Aadhaar information, including instant access to the Aadhaar PDF.
- UIDAI aims to make the update process as fast and easy as conducting UPI transactions.
How to Update Your Aadhaar Now
While the new app is being fine-tuned, the existing way to update details involves a few steps:
- Visit the official myAadhaar portal.
- Log in by entering your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
- Select “Update Address,” fill in your new details, and upload a valid proof such as a passport or driving license.
- Pay a nominal fee of Rs 50, then track your update status online via the Service Request Number (SRN).
For sensitive details like date of birth or mobile number, it’s necessary to visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre with the relevant documents, where an operator will handle the update.
