Aarogya Setu App Beats Pokémon GO To Get This Record

India’s very own dedicated coronavirus tracking app Aarogya Setu has set a new world record. In doing so it has beaten the popular augmented reality Pokémon GO. The app has now crossed 50 million users.

It has become the world’s fastest app to reach the milestone. Aarogya Setu has reached 50 million users in just 13 days. A whopping 11 million downloads took place in a single day on Tuesday. This happened after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to download it.

In his 7 point support appeal the PM mentioned Aarogya Setu. Pokémon GO took 19 days to reach the milestone. After PM’s address downloads of the app surged from 39 million to a peak of 100,000 per minute on Tuesday. Interestingly 99% of downloads were on Android mobiles.

The app was launched on April 2 to alert users who are at risk of exposure to COVID-19 infection. The launch came after the launch of Corona Kavach App which is also a location-based app to help people get the right information about the virus. Recently Google and Apple have also collaborated to launch a similar contact-tracing initiative.
