Amravati Murder Investigation
The Police also said, that the killers knew that this murder was linked to the viral social media post which supported the remarks of now-suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma over Prophet Mohammed, which had angered many in India and abroad as well.
Police Commissioner Arti Singh said in a press meeting, “But we did not reveal that link due to the very sensitive nature of the case.”
A probe by NIA or National Investigation Agency was ordered by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah after 10 days after the killing when local BJP workers complained about the police concealing the real motive of murder for political reasons. BJP MP Navneet Kaur Rana, a local, questioned the Government which was then being led by Uddhav Thackeray. Now, after a two-week-long political disruption in the state, the party is again in power. The new Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has pointed out Amravati murder as a “National Issue”.
The commissioner reacted to the allegations made to the police for slow investigation until the NIA has taken over the case and said, “ The MP Navneet Kaur Rana, is making false allegations because I had registered a case of attempt to murder against her husband Ravi Rana some days ago.”
