Despite mixed reviews, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, set new box office records on Sunday. The action-packed film surpassed the three-day earnings of Siddharth Anand’s Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan and became the second film of the year, after Atlee Kumar’s SRK film Jawan, to join the Rs 200 crore club in India and the Rs 350 crore club worldwide within just three days.
Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal had a massive opening of Rs 63.8 crores, the film crossed the Rs 100 crore mark on its second day, collecting an additional Rs 66 crores.
Animal saw a big jump in audience numbers in Mumbai, Delhi/NCR, Pune, and Hyderabad. Even the Telugu version did well in Hyderabad. Looks like Animal might keep the momentum going on Sunday too.
Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal is Unstoppable, Outfoxed the Comparables
Animal clashed with Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur and came out on top. Released on December 1, Animal explores a man’s complicated relationship with his father. Vijay, played by Ranbir, is an anti-hero who goes to extremes, including gunning down 200 people, to protect his emotionally distant father, played by Anil Kapoor. Despite his efforts, Vijay struggles to gain his father’s approval, affecting his marriage with his wife, played by Rashmika Mandanna. The film, featuring bold scenes and receiving an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), has a runtime of 3 hours and 35 minutes.

“Animal is for brave hearts (brace yourself for a brutal throat-slitting scene). The film is dark, loud and garish but also unapologetic. It has guns blazing with the background score sometimes overpowering the dialogues. But somehow, all of that works. Amid all the grimness and goriness, you will also find yourself cracking up from time to time, thanks to Sandeep’s cheeky approach. Animal might not meet the tall claims made by the makers but it’s an amusing roller coaster ride that will keep you hooked throughout,” reads the review from News18 Showsha.
