As we use nature for our benefit, it is essential to ensure that the development doesn’t result in human-animal conflict. And thankfully, we, as humans, are getting a better understanding of it.
In a move to plunge the human-animal conflict, India is all set to get its first-ever animal overpass at the under-construction Delhi-Mumbai greenfield expressway.
As per the TOI report, the animal bridge will take inspiration from ‘animal bridges/ecoducts’ in the Netherlands (pictures below). The bridge is an initiative to ensure there are no disturbances to the animals at the Ranthambore Wildlife Corridor due to vehicular passage.

The Rajasthan government had proposed the idea to the National Highway Authority Of India (NHAI) that is responsible for the construction of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway.
The NHAI has said that as many as five such animal overpasses will be erected at multiple junctures over the Delhi-Mumbai expressway.
“There will be no chance of any conflict as the wild animals will get such passage at every 500 metres interval. The passages will be developed as part of a forest corridor with trees so that animals find it natural,” TOI quoted a source as saying.
