Maharashtra is at the top of India’s problems in the COVID-19 pandemic. With close to 26,000 cases and around 975 deaths, the state tops the chart in terms of a number of cases. The state’s capital Mumbai is the hotbed of cases with around 15,747 cases. Amidst this, all the state has called for central help.
On Wednesday the Maharashtra government sought 20 companies of central armed police forces to maintain law and order in the state. The help was asked to accord a bit of relief to state police who is on the streets since March. Moreover, the state has also mentioned the need for law and order during the upcoming Eid festival in the request.
“State’s police force has been working “day and night” to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the state and need some relief “, said Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh. A good number of police personnel have fallen prey to the deadly virus in the state already. 32 companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are already deployed in the state and are working with the Maharashtra police.
