As Delhi once again saw a violent rise in anti- CAA protest the Delhi Metro decided to close operations on certain stations. Protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) got violent in Jaffrabad and Maujpur region yesterday.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was forced to close the entry and exit gates of Jaffrabad and Maujpur-Babarpur metro stations due to security reasons. Taking that further by a day DMRC would keep these stations close on Monday as well.
While the Jaffrabad metro station had been closed on Sunday morning, the Maujpur-Babarpur metro station was closed in the evening after an incident of stone-pelting occurred between two groups in Maujpur area. Police had to resort to firing tear gas shells in order to disperse the mob.
Women are protesting in large numbers in these areas. Over 1,000 women gathered at the metro station and are staging a protest on the road which connects Seelampur to Maujpur and Yamuna Vihar. They were holding the national flag and raised slogans of “Azadi”.

All this comes at a time when the U.S. President is scheduled to visit Delhi on Monday evening. The U.S. President would be on a two days visit to India starting Monday.
