BJP announced the final list of candidates for the Bengal Assembly Election on Tuesday for all 294 seats. In this announcement, the party announced 13 names, replacing some nominees from the final lists, and altering the constituencies of a few to curtail antipathy in the ranks.
Actor Mithun Chakraborty failed to make the cut, who had glinted the assumption about getting a ticket by moving from Mumbai to Kolkata. However, Mithun Chakraborty shared the Brigade dais with PM Narendra Modi in Kolkata this month, which is expected to lead a roadshow for BJP’s Nandigram candidate Suvendu Adhikari next week.

Bharatiya Janta Party’s Shibaji Singha Roy (North Kolkata president) nominated for the Cossipore-Belgachhia seat after Kolkata Municipal Corporation councillor Tarun Saha. Tarun Saha’s wife Mala Saha, is the current Trinamool MLA but failed to make the lists this time. BJP named Atin Ghosh as Trinamool’s candidate in the final Bengal list. BJP named Debabrata Majhi for Chowringhee after Shikha Mitra rejected to join the party for the Bengal assembly election.

The final list includes indication and suggestion of the party’s efforts to appease the Matua heartland of Nadia and North 24-Parganas, that extents 7 reserved assembly segments. For Gaighata, Bongaon MP Santanu Thakur’s brother and Matua Thakurbari member Subrata Thakur are nominated, even though their father, former Trinamool minister Manjul Krishna Thakur, failed to get a ticket.
