Over 96,000 visitors travelled on 172 “Bharat Gaurav” trains in 2023, according to the announcement from the Ministry of Railways.
Known as “Bharat Gaurav” Tourist Trains, Indian Railways pioneered the idea of running tourist trains on circuits centred around themes. The goal of these tourist circuit trains with a theme is to highlight India’s amazing historical sites and rich cultural legacy.
“Bharat Gaurav trains have carried 96,491 tourists across 172 trips in 2023, covering various tourist destinations across the nation, spread across 24 states and Union Territories,” the Ministry stated.
Major tourist routes including the Ambedkar Circuit, the North East tour, the “Garvi Gujarat” trip, the Shri Ram-Janaki Yatra (from Ayodhya to Janakpur), and the Shri Jagannath Yatra have all been traversed by these trains.
These train trips are available as all-inclusive vacation packages that include luxurious train rides and complimentary onboard amenities with off-board activities and bus excursions, hotel stays, tour guides, meals, and travel insurance, among other things.
Under the Bharat Gaurav Train initiative, the Ministry of Railways has made a determined effort to promote domestic travel by offering rail-based travel with higher-quality coaches. This is also consistent with the government of India’s attempts to promote domestic travel, “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” and “Dekho Apna Desh.”
