A BJP MLA in Maharashtra had reportedly gone to a police station in Mumbai seeking an FIR against Amitabh Bachchan and the makers of the TV show, ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 12,’ for allegedly hurting Hindu sentiments.
The BJP MLA named Abhimanyu Pawar said that he wants action against Bachchan the makers of KBC, Sony Entertainment Television and Amitab Bachchan over a question asked during Friday’s Karamveer special episode.
The episode had social activist Bezwada Wilson and actor Anup Soni on the hot seat when Bachchan asked the following question:
On 25th December 1927, Dr. B R Ambedkar and his followers burned copies of which scripture? The options were:
- (A) Vishnu Purana
- (B) Bhagavad Gita
- (C) Rigved
- (D) Manusmriti.

Bachchan then said, “In 1927, Ambedkar condemned the ancient Hindu text Manusmriti to ideologically justify caste discrimination and untouchability and burned its copies.” “All the four options pertained to Hindu religion. It is clear that the motive behind this question was to hurt the sentiments of Hindus,” Pawar said in his police complaint.
Manusmrti, for the unaware, is among the many Dharmasastras in Hinduism. Dharmasastras are theological texts that are believed to carry the message of Dharma. There are somewhere between 18-100 known Dharmasastras that entertain knowledge on dharma (law), artha (wealth, profit, business, or property), and kama (passion, desire, pleasure).

“This question spreads the message that Hindu religious scriptures are meant for burning and triggers enmity between Hindus and followers of Buddhism,” said Pawar.
