Black Marketing of Water? Delhi’s UNIQUE Plan Sends 1,111 Tankers Into Action

In order to increase the city’s water supply throughout the summer, the national capital received 1,111 additional water tankers. At a government function on Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta waved the tankers off. A GPS tracking device is installed on these water trucks to prevent black-marketing.

Monitoring From Delhi Jal Board Headquarters

In an effort to combat the water mafia, the tracking technology would allow the whereabouts of the tankers to be monitored on an IT dashboard from the Delhi Jal Board headquarters.

“This is a step in the direction of total openness. At the occasion, Gupta stated, “This is not the end solution; we will work on a new town plan to provide water from the tap to every resident.”

The celebration commemorating the 60th day of her government in Burari was attended by BJP MPs and MLAs, Water Minister Parvesh Verma, and Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa.

For The Water Industry, Rs 9,000 Crore

The Delhi government has set aside Rs 9,000 crore for the water sector in its fiscal year 2025–2026 budget. According to Gupta, this sum covers funding for a variety of projects, including the installation of smart meters, pipeline construction, water body restoration, and desilting sewers.

“To address wastewater overflow, we have placed 50 super sucker machines across the city. Only two of these computers were purchased by the previous administration,” she continued.

Additionally, the municipal administration is aiming to expand the capacity of water and sewage treatment facilities.

“This is a model of transparency and good governance,” Verma added. Even though some of these tankers are outdated, they are all GPS-equipped. Like with meal delivery applications, people can use their phones to follow the tankers’ whereabouts.

“We accomplished in ten weeks what the ‘AAP-da sarkar’ had been unable to do for so many years. Tonnes of silt are being swept out of drains. Referring to the earlier AAP era, he continued, “We are working on holidays, festivals, every day.”
