As the nation celebrates ‘Hanuman Jayanti‘ today a note by Brazilian President compared PM Modi with the ‘Lord’. After U.S President Donald Trump called India for ‘medicine supply’ it was Brazilian Prez this time.
Brazilian President Jair Messias Bolsonaro thanked PM Narendra Modi for easing export restrictions on hydroxychloroquine. This came after Trump’s ‘retaliation’ threat to India. The President who was this year’s Republic day Chief guest wrote to the Indian PM.
In his note, Bolsonaro compared PM Modi with lord Hanuman from Ramayan. He said lifting the export ban was just like Lord Hanuman’s lifting of the mountain for ‘Sanjeevani Booti‘. The Brazilian President made this comparison in his official letter.
“Just as Lord Hanuman brought the holy medicine from the Himalayas to save the life of Lord Rama’s brother Laksmana, and Jesus healed those who were sick and restored the sight of Bartimeu, India and Brazil will overcome this global crisis“, he wrote in his letter. India is the largest manufacturer and exporter of anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine. The drug is a potential COVID-19 drug as per doctors and researchers. India early put a ban on its export to ensure self-sufficiency. Now it has allowed export.
However, India would stockpile enough of the drug for domestic use before export. After the U.S. and other countries demand India decide to ensure supplies. India received requests from around 20 countries. Brazilian President said that the country needs the drug not just for the coronavirus disease but also for other illnesses.
