As many as 15 migrant workers were killed this morning when a cargo train ran over them in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad. A group of 20 migrant workers was, reportedly, sleeping on the rail tracks when the incident occurred. The migrants were walking from Jalna to Bhusaval, 157 km apart.
The remaining four immigrants are in shock after the incident among which one been subjected to a few injuries. “We are counselling the survivors before we speak to them for more details,” Poloise office Mokshada Patil said.

The reports claim that the migrant workers were travelling to Madhya Pradesh and assumed trains weren’t running due to lockdown. The incident occurred at 5:15 AM in the morning.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan offered condolences and announced Rs 5 lakh help to the families of the migrant workers.
Mr. Chouhan is in touch with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for arrangements related to the treatment of the injured migrants, officials in Madhya Pradesh said.

Migrants choosing to walk by themselves to return home, despite the fact that special trains are being run for them, is a matter the governments must look into.
