Chances Of Getting COVID Again? What To Expect

Reinfections With COVID

Reinfections With COVID

Getting reinfected with the COVID-19 causing virus for a person means that he was infected before, gets treated, recovered and then again gets infected by the same virus. As we are living and managing the current COVID pandemic situation, we have witnessed people getting reinfected. It has become very common and scientists are still researching the probability of getting reinfected. However, the preliminary research has given us the basic idea.
See, after getting infected and recovering from the virus provides us with protection against it for some time, but it is noticed that reinfections do occur.

ICMR COVID Data

ICMR’s study data shows that the people who were infected by the Delta variant were liable to get Omicron. This proves the virus’s ability to evade post recovery and vaccination. A study done by ICMR scientists on healthcare professionals clears out any doubts. The person was infected with all three variants of COVID-19. The study concluded that vaccination boosted immunity against Omicron but it eroded with time. Hence precautions including wearing masks, maintaining social distance, hand hygiene and infection control are the most powerful practices against COVID we can rely on.

Severity Of Reinfections

According to Doctors, the severity of reinfections was seen as mild in healthy people, but some cases were very serious. Thus the risk of getting COVID infection in a long term is still not clear. UK data shows us that reinfections were ten times higher during the Omicron wave than in the Delta period.

It is recently observed that the reinfection rate in England is near about 11 per cent, as per Government data. As reported by England there were 18.5 million cases, out of which the reinfected ones were around 1 million.

Noticed by Doctors and health agencies that after recovering from COVID people are generally protected against the virus for 90 days. This is because your body’s immunity gets boosted after infection and then erodes.
