Waiting for your Income Tax Refund? Worry not, we will enlighten you with the easiest methods to check your refund status by sitting at home.
If a person has paid higher tax to the government in a fiscal year, then he or she has to file an ITR to claim the refund. The tax more than the liability is paid when the “advance tax paid by an individual, self-assessment and/or tax deducted at source (TDS)” exceeds the total tax liability during a financial year.
The Income Tax Department after analysing your ITR, if it finds that a refund is payable to you, then you will receive a notification via SMS or Email. Notification will carry the refundable amount along with the reference number of the refund sequence. Under section 143 (1) of the income tax Act, a notification is sent to the tax payee.
Refund Initialization
The refund process is initiated by the State Bank of India (SBI). And via RTGS/NEFT the refundable amount is credited into the accounts of taxpayers. Another method to transfer the amount is by issuing a demand draft or Cheque, that is sent to the taxpayer’s registered address. Note that while filing your ITR you should always recheck the account details that you are providing as the refund will be credited to that account in the near future.
