On the occasion of International Labour Day on May 1, The Chhattisgarh Government announced to raise the Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees. An increase of 5 per cent has been offered by the Government, taking the final DA to 22 per cent from the previous of 17 per cent.
Announcement From Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel took this decision of the State Government on Twitter and announced the news for all the employees.
His tweet says, “Today we have taken a big decision in the interest of the employees. I announce a five per cent increase in the dearness allowance of employees. This rate will be applicable from today (May 1) onwards.”
Demand Of Employees
This decision of the State Govt. has come following the demands to increase the DA by state employees & Officers. They appealed to make the DA equivalent to the DA offered to a Central employee.
Before this big announcement, the state employees were being paid only 17 per cent dearness allowance, which was half of what a Central Government employee takes home, a decent amount of 34 per cent. Because of this State employees protested and showed demonstrations against the low DA.
This year in March, the Union Government offered to provide an additional 3 per cent of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) to all its employees to provide relief amid rising inflation.

Here’s How State Government Employees Can Calculate DA
- The Formula is– multiple current DA rate by your basic salary which will result in DA payable to you.
- For example– the current DA rate is 22 per cent after the hike, and if your basic salary is ₹40,000 then after calculation the DA paid to you will be: (40,000 x 22)/100.
