The four convicts of the 2012 Nirbhaya case will be hanged till death on January 22 at 7 AM as per the Delhi Court’s order. The preparation to hang the convicts have been going on for a while at the Tihar jail where the convicts have been kept.
The accused in the case namely Pawan Gupta, Akshay Thakur, Vinay Sharma, Mukesh Singh and Ram Singh were arrested and sent to judicial custody soon after the incident.
The four were found guilty of torturing, raping and killing of a young medical student in Delhi and then dumping her with her friend on a Delhi road.
Nirbhaya lost her battle with life at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital 13 days after the incident.
“This judgement will reinforce people’s faith in the judiciary. My daughter will get justice,” said Nirbhaya’s mother, who had petitioned the court for a death warrant, saying she had waited seven years for justice.

A few weeks ago, one of the convicts namely, Akshya Singh, had filed a review petition against the death petition, which was dismissed by the Supreme Court.
Preparations
Several reports claim that Tihar’s officials have ordered 10 ropes from Bihar’s Buxar jail, which are made by the prisoners of the facility for the conviction.
Besides ropes, Tihar has also sought a hangman from Uttar Pradesh. In a FAX to UP Anand Kumar, Director General (DG) of UP prison administration and reform services, Tihar has sought for a hangman.

Tihar Jail had also carried out a test by hanging a dummy weighing 70-80kgs. The convicts will be executed probably in Jail Number 3.
