As per Bloomberg’s Coronavirus tracker, coronavirus cases in India are growing faster than anywhere else in the world increasing 20% over the last week to more than 1.4 million confirmed cases
The South Asian country is only behind the USA and Brazil in the total number of cases. Infections in India have reached 1.43 million, including 32,771 deaths, India’s health ministry said, with daily cases close to a record 50,000 on Monday.
The testing capacity has also been increased rapidly in India. The country conducted as many as 515,472 samples taken on Sunday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research. Also, many states are keeping up with the standard of 140 tests per day, per 10 lakh people that WHO recommends.
However, going above that number will never harm. Still, India and Brazil have some of the world’s lowest testing rates, with 11.8 tests and 11.93 tests per 1,000 people respectively.
When compared to the U.S., the country conducts 152.98 tests per 1,000 and Russia conducts with 184.34, according to Our World in Data, a project-based at the University of Oxford in the U.K.
