Recently COVID-19 cases were declining and things were getting back to normal. But now as per the latest reports and current scenarios, a new COVID variant XE which is highly transmissible is causing trouble. This week more than three Schools in Ghaziabad and Noida have been shut down and switched back to online study mode. Students and teachers are tested positive for COVID-19 and more tests are being done.

As per the report by Mint, in the National Capital, the daily covid cases are at 299 with the current positive rate of 2.49 percent. In just two days 501 new cases have emerged and current active cases are now 814.

About XE Variant

Well XE is a new mutated variant that emerged with the help of previous versions of Omicron variant BA.1 & BA.2. It now covers the globe, but first was found in the UK on January 19, and since then this variant is showing dominance.

As per WHO, the COVID-19 XE variant is highly transmissible with a community growth rate of 10 percent. It is high in comparison with BA.2 which already has such transferability. Current situations and reports suggest that in near future XE can become a dominant strain.

A recent WHO report said, “The XE recombinant (BA.1-BA.2), was first detected in the UK on January 19 and less than 600 sequences have been reported and confirmed since.

Further said, “Early-day estimates indicate a community growth rate advantage of 10 percent as compared to BA.2, however, this finding requires further confirmation.”

Symptoms Of COVID-19 XE Variant

Running nose, sneezing, and sore throats are the few symptoms of the XE variant as per UK Health Security Agency. It is opposite to the original COVID-19 variant which included fever, coughs, and loss of taste & smell.

Further can cause, breathlessness, tiredness, exhaustion, aching body, headache, sore throat, blocked or runny nose, loss of appetite, diarrhea, sickness.

As per the agency, 637 new cases of the COVID-19 XE variant were detected in England on March 22. Further, this variant is also found in Thailand and New Zealand.
