15 Steps To Apply For CRCS Sahara Refund Portal

The Union Government, led by Union Home Minister and Cooperation Minister, inaugurated the CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal in Delhi. The webpage seeks to assist millions of Sahara Group depositors in reclaiming their funds.

On July 17, the Ministry of Cooperation petitioned the Supreme Court to settle the claims of real members/depositors of Sahara Group cooperative organizations. In its decision dated March 29, 2023, the Supreme Court directed that Rs 5000 crores will be transferred from the ‘Sahara-SEBI Refund Account’ to the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies (CRCS) for payout against lawful dues of bonafide depositors of the Sahara Group of Cooperative Societies.

The goal of the CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal

The CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal was created to address legitimate depositor claims in Sahara Group cooperative societies such as Sahara Credit Cooperative Society Ltd., Saharayan Universal Multipurpose Society Ltd., Humara India Credit Cooperative Society Ltd., and Stars Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd.

The refund facility would initially pay out up to Rs 5000 crore to depositors. In the first phase, each depositor would be eligible for a maximum of Rs 10,000. On a trial basis, Rs 10,000 will be refunded to investors, with the option of raising the refund amount if the experiment is successful.

Eligibility and the Claim Procedure

Approximately around one crore and seven lakh investors can register. During the first phase, you can claim up to Rs 10,000 using the refund site. A total of 4 crore depositors are entitled to collect up to Rs 10,000. To make a claim, depositors’ Aadhaar IDs and bank accounts must be linked to each other. Deposit receipts are also required. Depositors will be required to download a form, fill it out, and re-upload it to the site for further refund processing.
