Day 1 of the informal summit between PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping rounded up on a resolve to work closely. The two leaders met at the beach town of Mamallapuram yesterday.

PM Modi hosted the visiting Chinese leader for a dinner at the historic Shore Temple. The two leaders talked about various matters in a meeting that spanned around 5 hours.

The key focus of the discussion was talks on national visions and priorities related to governance. Both Modi and Jinping talked about radicalization and terrorism as a part of there discussion and termed it as a “common challenge”.

As per statements from the Foreign Secretary, Prime Minister called for the economic development of the two countries to which the Chinese President responded that the two nations need to work closely for that.

PM Modi donned the hat of guide for the Chinese leader and explained to him the significance of the historical monument. Choice of Mamallapuram as a meeting venue also has its significance.
The idea was to stress the historical trading links between the southern part of India and south-western China, particularly the Fujian province. The Chinese leader was once the Governor of Fujian province.
On Day 2 of the meeting on Saturday elaborated discussion on topics ranging from trade to terror is expected. The 2-day state visit of Chinese President would round-up today.
