Delhi Airport Introduces Fast Self-Service Check-In for Luggage

The operator of Delhi Airport, DIAL, announced on Tuesday that it had introduced a self-service feature that allows travellers to check in faster by dropping off their bags, picking up tags, and printing boarding tickets.

According to DIAL (Delhi International Airport Ltd), the new one-step rapid luggage drop solution cuts the check-in time from one minute to only thirty seconds.

According to a statement from the operator, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is the first in the country to provide such a service and the second in the world, behind Toronto Airport in Canada.

The airport has set up about 50 Self-Service Bag Drop (SSBD) locations for travellers in Terminals 1 and 3 as part of the new system. According to the statement, three airlines now provide these units: Air India, IndiGo, and Air India Express.

Using the traditional method, Travellers can utilise common self-service (CUSS) kiosks to get luggage tags, print boarding cards, and skip check-in offices in about a minute.

The operator stated that before travellers leave their luggage on the conveyor belt, they must either scan their boarding tickets or confront biometric cameras at the baggage drop stations.

DIAL has introduced a rapid drop solution service, a one-step procedure that, according to the airport operator, makes this process more effective by doing away with the requirement for a boarding card or biometric authentication because this information is already on the luggage tag.

It also noted that this cuts down on processing time from around a minute to thirty seconds.
