Delhi Airport Terminal 2 Reopens with Major Upgrades, Boosting Passenger Experience
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has officially reopened its renovated Terminal 2 (T2) starting the night of October 25-26, 2025, aligning with the launch of the winter flight schedule. The terminal, originally constructed four decades ago, was closed in April for extensive modernization designed to handle the rising passenger traffic and improve operational efficiency.
The revamped T2 now boasts state-of-the-art technology and passenger-friendly facilities that aim to create a smooth, hassle-free travel experience. Among the key features is the introduction of a Self-Baggage Drop system that allows passengers to independently check in their luggage, significantly cutting down wait times. Additionally, six new passenger boarding bridges equipped with advanced autonomous docking technology have been installed, enhancing safety, accessibility, and speed during boarding.
The terminal also shines with smart design elements, such as high ceilings and skylights that flood the space with natural light, along with a Virtual Information Desk where travelers can access real-time flight details, gate navigation, airport services, and even virtual assistance all in one place.
This upgrade supports the airport’s goal to balance airline operations across terminals. IndiGo is expanding its presence across all three terminals, with all its 2000-2999 series flights moving from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2. Air India, on the other hand, is relocating around 60 domestic flights from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2, while Air India Express will continue operations from Terminal 1. Together, Air India and IndiGo will operate approximately 120 domestic flights daily from the renewed Terminal 2.
Conveniently, the nearest metro access remains via the IGI Airport metro station at Terminal 3, with easy shuttle services available for Terminal 2 passengers. This metro line connects the airport directly to New Delhi Railway Station and Dwarka Sector 21, enhancing connectivity for travelers.
This major reopening marks a significant milestone in transforming Delhi Airport into a world-class, future-ready transit hub, equipped to handle nearly half of northern India’s passenger traffic and catering to about 50,000 transfers daily. The modernization reflects a commitment to delivering efficient, passenger-centric services while setting new standards in airport experience.
