Delhi Gets Ready: 100 New Air Raid Sirens Coming to the City

Delhi is buzzing with a new kind of alert system. The city is all set to install 100 air raid sirens, making safety a top priority for everyone. Even though the recent tensions between India and Pakistan seem to be calming down, Delhi is not taking any chances. These sirens are being put in place as a precaution, so the city stays prepared for any emergency in the future.

Why Are Air Raid Sirens Being Installed?

The idea behind installing these sirens is simple: to keep people safe. If there is ever an aerial threat or emergency, these sirens will act as an early warning system. The goal is to make sure everyone in Delhi gets enough time to find shelter and stay safe.

How Will the Sirens Work?

The sirens are designed to make a loud sound-up to 120 decibels-that can be heard from far away. Each siren will cover a large area, with some models reaching up to 8 kilometers. When the siren goes off, it will ring for about five minutes, giving people enough time to move to a safe spot like under a table, in a basement, or any protected area.

What’s even better is that these sirens are smart. They can be controlled from a central command center. If there’s ever a need, officials can turn on one, a few, or all the sirens at once, even using remote technology. There’s also a backup system in case of power cuts or network failures, so the sirens will work no matter what.

Where Will the Sirens Be Placed?

Delhi has 11 districts, and each one will get about 10 sirens. The government is being careful about where to put them. The sirens will be installed between 4.5 and 6 meters above the ground, away from tall buildings and with plenty of open space around. This is to make sure the sound travels as far as possible and everyone can hear it clearly.

Some of the sirens will be placed on top of high-rise buildings, while others will be set up in busy areas like markets, malls, and tourist spots. The authorities are also checking that every neighborhood is covered, so there are no “dark zones” where the siren can’t be heard.

Before rolling out all 100 sirens, the government tested the first one at the Public Works Department (PWD) headquarters at ITO. During the test, some people said the sound wasn’t loud enough in distant areas. Because of this, the installation guidelines were changed, and the government is now making sure every siren is placed at the right height and location for the best sound coverage.

Officials are also thinking about adding more sirens or using devices with higher decibel levels if needed. The aim is to make sure every resident can hear the alert, no matter where they are in the city.

The Delhi government knows that just installing sirens isn’t enough. People need to know what to do when they hear the siren. That’s why public awareness campaigns are being planned. These will teach everyone how to respond-like stopping outdoor activities, moving to safe areas, and staying calm.

Civil defence teams and police are also running drills and making announcements in crowded places. They’re working with local groups, schools, and market associations to make sure everyone is ready and knows how to react.

No Need to Panic-Just Be Prepared

The message from the government is clear: don’t panic when you hear the siren. It’s there to keep you safe. The sirens are part of a bigger plan to make Delhi more prepared for any emergency, and to give everyone peace of mind.

With these new air raid sirens, Delhi is taking a big step towards safety and readiness. The city is showing that being prepared is always better than being caught off guard. So, the next time you hear a siren, remember-it’s just Delhi looking out for you.
