Delhi Government Revives Sightseeing Bus Service with New Routes and Evening Tours

After a five-year pause due to the pandemic, Delhi is set to welcome back its much-loved city sightseeing bus service. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), in partnership with the tourism department, is preparing to launch an updated version of the popular ‘Delhi Darshan’ tour. This initiative aims to offer both residents and tourists an immersive experience of the city’s historical sites and cultural landmarks, capturing Delhi’s vibrant atmosphere in a new and exciting way.

The new city sightseeing service will feature some key changes from its earlier versions. This time, the buses will not follow the traditional Hop-On Hop-Off (HoHo) model. Instead, the plan is to operate the buses on a fixed loop, making stops at some of the capital’s most prominent tourist spots. This adjustment is designed to improve convenience and help more people access Delhi’s myriad attractions in an organized and timely manner.

According to officials, the revamped service will operate on two specially planned circuits. Both circuits will run during the evening hours, starting around 4 or 5 pm and continuing until 9 pm. The move to evening tours is a significant change, allowing passengers to witness the city’s famous monuments beautifully illuminated after dark. From majestic heritage sites to new attractions like the Prime Ministers’ Museum, National War Memorial, and the newly lit buildings that line central Delhi, the bus tours promise a memorable visual experience.

The decision to schedule the tours in the evening serves a dual purpose. First, it allows visitors to escape the daytime heat and explore in comfort during the cooler evenings. Second, Delhi’s monuments transform after dark, with architectural lighting turning familiar landmarks into glowing beacons of the city’s rich past and evolving present. Sites like India Gate, the New Parliament House, and the popular Kartavya Path will take center stage, while the illuminated skyline offers spectacular views for photography and enjoyment.

In keeping with the capital’s growing focus on sustainability, the Delhi Transport Corporation has provided two electric buses for running the initial pilot version of the service. These modern vehicles are not only environment-friendly but also promise a quieter and smoother ride. To add local flavor and excitement, the buses are being wrapped in vibrant designs featuring some of Delhi’s iconic sights. This creative makeover aims to make the buses stand out on city roads and spark interest among potential riders.

The renewed focus on tourism is also reflected in this year’s state budget. Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a significant increase in financial support for tourism-related projects, allocating Rs 117 crore—over 77 percent more than last year’s Rs 66 crore. This enhanced funding demonstrates the government’s commitment to boosting tourism, showcasing both new and classic attractions to local citizens and international travelers alike.

Attractions on the Route

With the relaunch of the service, some of Delhi’s most important and scenic places are set to receive a spotlight. Kartavya Path, the New Parliament House, and the National War Memorial will be key highlights on the circuit. Additionally, the Prime Ministers’ Museum and other recently developed nighttime installations will be part of the routes, offering a fresh perspective on the city’s historical narrative.

To avoid confusion with private operators and to reflect its transformation, the Delhi government has decided to give the service a new official name, moving away from the previously used ‘HoHo’ branding. This rebranding is intended to give the city’s sightseeing tours a unique identity and renewed popularity among locals and visitors.

The return of the city sightseeing bus service marks a new chapter for tourism in Delhi. With evening routes, modern electric buses, expanded funding, and a vision to showcase both tradition and innovation, the Delhi government is set to make urban exploration easier and more exciting. Whether you are a first-time visitor or a longtime resident, the revamped Delhi Darshan journey offers a wonderful opportunity to rediscover the capital in a new light—quite literally. Keep an eye out for the colorfully wrapped buses and seize the chance to explore Delhi’s landmarks in all their nighttime glory.
