The Delhi government began operating two new Mohalla bus routes, which would travel past six or seven DU institutions, well-known shopping centers, and metro stations. These buses are on trial for seven days. They run from the Lok Kalyan Marg metro station to Vasant Vihar (by DIMTS) and from the Kailash Colony metro station to PNB Geetanjali (by DTC).
Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti, and RK Puram MLA Parmila Tokas, representing their respective Assembly constituencies, flagged off the buses.
The significant local locations are all connected to public transportation via Mohalla buses, according to Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, ensuring first- and last-mile connection.
“To meet the transportation needs of the nearby residents as well as students, we have also included major educational institutions like Motilal Nehru College, Jesus and Mary College, Maitreyi College, Sri Venkateswara College, LSR College, Central School, and Vocational College as stops in the trial of Mohalla buses on the two new routes,” he stated.
According to Bharadwaj, residents of “posh” colonies like Malviya Nagar and Greater Kailash Part-1 have long demanded a small-bus service similar to the Mohalla Bus Service. The minister added that the route passes by three major marketplaces, many metro stations, the Saket Mall, and major hospitals including PSRI and Max.
“You may also alleviate Delhi’s pollution and congestion if you offer last-mile connection via this Mohalla bus service from the metro station to homes. These buses are electric and produce no emissions. This is a positive move, Bharadwaj declared.
The Mohalla Bus Scheme intends to deploy nine-meter-long electric buses that can only travel on narrow, crowded roadways to provide feeder bus services to city dwellers near their houses.
