Beginning on April 10, 2025, the Delhi government, under by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, formally opened the registration process for the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). An annual cashless health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family for hospitalisation and medical bills is offered by the Central Government’s flagship program.
After the National Health Authority (NHA) and the State Health Agency of the Delhi government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 5, Delhi’s Finance Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh declared that the first registration phase had begun. Delhi is now the 36th state or union territory to join PMJAY thanks to this agreement, which makes it possible to execute the program in the nation’s capital.
A Health Coverage Of Rs 10 Lakh Will Help 36 Lakh Delhi Residents
According to the age shown on their Aadhaar card, recipients over 70 are eligible under this plan, regardless of their income. Additionally, families classified as poor (about 6.54 lakh homes), Asha workers, and Anganwadi workers would all gain. It is anticipated that around 36 lakh Delhi residents would be covered in total.
CM Rekha Gupta gave a major boost when she said that the Delhi government will double the coverage to Rs 10 lakh per family by providing an extra Rs 5 lakh in health insurance. This project is part of the larger Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, which has been given a budget of Rs 2,400 crore to improve Delhi’s healthcare system.
