Director Of Iconic Cartoons ‘Tom And Jerry’ And ‘Popeye’ Passes Away

The man who made the childhood of many across the world ‘memorable’ with his creations passed away last week. The Oscar-winning director and creator of iconic cartoons ‘Tom and Jerry‘ and ‘Popeye‘ is no more. Yes, we are talking about Gene Deitch.

The American director, illustrator, animator, and comic artist breathed his last on Thursday. The news of his demise came yesterday. He passed away in Prague at the age of 95. Gene directed 13 episodes of Tom And Jerry for MGM between 1961 to 1962 and also directed a few episodes of Popeye for King Features between 1960 and 1963.

Gene who was born in 1924 was getting trained to be a pilot. However, he went on to work as an illustrator for magazines before eventually turning towards animation. The news of his demise sent a wave of sadness among fans. Here is how they paid tribute to the iconic man:
