Disney Plus Hotstar finished 2021 with a bang where its subscriber base sky rocketed to 130 million users. At the end of 2021 Disney Hotstar had nearly 130 million paying subscribers which is a big feat. In the last quarter of the year it gained 11.8 million subscribers. According to analysts it was forecasted that it would have 7.3 million subscribers in last leg of the year.
This means that Disney Plus Hotstar performed really well and it was happy year end. If you will look at the year 2021, Disney Plus subscriber base grew by more than 37% from 95 million in 2020 to 130 million in 2021.

Disney reported revenue of 21.82 billion dollars and adjusted earnings of 1.06 dollars per share in the first quarter of FY22. Analyst estimated it to go around 18.36 billion dollars and earnings per share to be at 61 cents. After the results the stock prices of Disney went high by nearly 10%.
In United States and Canada, Disney plus has 42.9 million customers (up by 18%). Internationally Disney Plus has 41.1 million customers (up by 40%). Disney Plus Hotstar is popular in India and other South East Asian countries have 45.9 million subscribers (up by 57%). According to industry experts, the streaming service got great benefit by streaming Marvel universe on the platform. It is one of the reasons for such a huge spike in paying subscriber base of the online streaming service. With such a robust growth Disney is in full investment mode and it wants to capture the global streaming market as much as it can. It has planned to spend over 33 billion dollars on content in the fiscal year 2022. Last year Disney spent 25 billion dollars on content. Disney has expected that it will have over 230 million subscribers by the end of 2024 and it will start generating profits by then.
