In an attempt to create awareness about the harmful effects of plastic, a district collector, C Narayana Reddy, of Mulugu District in Telangana initiated a campaign wherein he exchanged 1 kg of rice for 1 Kg of plastic.

A total of 44,848 kg of plastic waste was deposited by the public, Reddy said. The campaign began in October and the plastic waste is being deposited in gram panchayat. The DC adds that he wants to see a plastic-free Mulugu district before the Medaram Jathara festival in which over 1-crore people will participate.
