A preliminary plan to extend the Delhi Metro line to Ghaziabad City was just presented by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The 5.83-kilometer proposed plan, according to a report, proposes to link the Sector-62 Metro station in Noida with the Vaishali Metro station in Ghaziabad.
This is the third proposal the DMRC has offered to build a link between the two stations. The new proposal, according to Manvendra Singh, the GDA’s acting head engineer, recommends a route passing Indirapuram before arriving at Vaishali station.
He also further added “The two previous plans have not been dropped as such. We will now study the new plan to find out whether it is feasible. The land is required for construction and, later, the funding pattern will be decided.”
The experts predicted that the budget for the projected 5.83 km metro line will be between Rs 1,300 crore and Rs 1,400 crore once the entire project study is finished.
Before arriving at the Vaishali Metro station, the proposed metro line is anticipated to pass through neighborhoods close to the CISF, DPS Indirapuram, Ramlila Ground, Niti Khand, Gyan Khand, and Ramprastha. The current plan also suggests building four stations close to Vaibhav Khand, DPS, Niti Khand, and Gyan Khand.
The DMRC proposed a connection between Sector-62 in Noida and Sahibabad earlier in January 2020, at an estimated cost of Rs 1,517 crore. A second line, costing Rs 1,808.22 crore, linking Vaishali with Mohan Nagar was also proposed. The state government, however, rejected the GDA’s request for public funding in January of this year. The state once more resisted providing the two extensions with 50% of the funding in May.
The Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), which would link New Bus Adda to Sahibabad and then extend to Anand Vihar in Delhi, is now being built, and this has given rise to the new proposal.
“The earlier two plans were proposed when the option of RRTS was not available,” a GDA official said. As a result, a new route has been suggested given that the RRTS is soon to start running.
“We think that city commuters can use the RapidX trains on the RRTS line to get to Sahibabad and Anand Vihar. The recently submitted preliminary plan calls for buying some private land. Therefore, the authority is assessing the new proposal and may approve it once other requirements are completed,”
