Each year we follow the tradition of inviting International dignitaries to be the chief guest at the occasion. And the trend has been booming with each passing year and the last year we witnessed leaders from 10 ASEAN countries as our chief guests, making it the highest ever-presence of foreign dignitaries in the history on Republic day.
With the next year’s Republic day just two months away we already have our chief guest for the event announced. It’s the Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. President Bolsonaro has accepted the invitation of the Indian government to be the chief guest at the event. During his recent visit to Brazil for the 2019 BRICS summit, PM Modi met President Bolsonaro and presented the request to be the chief guest at the 71st Republic day parade. The Brazilian president accepted the request of Indian PM with pleasure.
This would be the third time that a Brazilian President would be present as chief guest at the Republic day parade. Prior to President Bolsonaro, President Fernando Henrique Cardoso and President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva have been the chief guest at the 1996 and 2004 Republic day parade respectively.
