Maharashtra Tourism and Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray recently on his Instagram and Twitter account announced that Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) will procure 900 AC Electric double-decker buses for Mumbai.
He tweeted, “The BEST double-decker, now electric! CM Uddhav Thackeray and I have been personally keen on reviving Mumbai’s iconic double-decker buses.”
He added, “While doing so, the BEST is procuring 900 of them, fully electric and emission-free. As we increase our BEST fleet, ultimately to 10,000 electric/clean alternate fuel buses, our aim is to have maximum double-decker buses, as this increases our capacity. I thank BEST chairman @AshishChemburk1 ji, GM Lokesh Chandra ji, and the committee of BEST for honoring our suggestion.”

Aditya Thackeray also said, “Along with Mumbai, I have requested municipal commissioners of other cities who are procuring electric buses to also add electric buses into their fleets on busy routes.”
People are excited about the news and people have shown their support on Twitter.
This comes as a part of Maharashtra Government’s mission to promote sale of e-vehicles in the state. The move will also help in building of infrastructure for electronic vehicles in Mumbai. States like Delhi, Punjab have also been taking different measures to promote e-vehicles to lower the pollution level in the region.
