DRDO, Indian Navy Successfully Tested Short Range VL-SRSAM Missile

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy successfully tested a short-range vertically launched VL-SRSAM Missile System on Tuesday. The testing, of Surface to Air Missile, was executed at Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur off the coast of Odisha. An unmanned aerial high-speed object was used as a target to test the vertical launch flight capabilities of the missile.

An official statement from the Ministry of Defence said, “The missiles, equipped with indigenous Radio Frequency (RF) seeker, intercepted the target with high accuracy”.

During the testing, the missile’s flight path and vehicle speed performance factors were closely monitored. All the data was being captured by the various types of instruments including, “ radar, electro-optical tracking system (EOTS) and telemetry systems” that were developed by ITR, Chandipur.

“The launch was monitored by senior scientists from various DRDO labs involved in the design and development of the system such as Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in Hyderabad and R&D Engineers in Pune,” said the statement.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, while complimenting the DRDO, Indian Navy and individuals devoted to the successful testing, said that this missile will enhance the power of the Indian Navy at short-range combat grounds.

Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO also congratulated. “It will further strengthen the Indian Navy for neutralising various aerial threats at close ranges including sea-skimming targets”, said the Minister.

Meanwhile, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has deployed an AI power advanced face recognition system that can identify people even with masks, fake beards, moustaches, wigs, sunglasses, headscarves, monkey caps, and hats are put on.

The Ministry of Defence (MOD), has recently introduced us to ‘AI in Defence’ and has revealed the Face Recognition System under Disguise’ (FRSD). As per the reports, FRSD is so powerful that it can recognise faces with or without disguises that too in low-resolution camera feeds.
