As the call for boycotting Chinese products is getting a rise in the county the Indian government has come with a new policy. Amidst the border tensions with the Chinese, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has asked online retailers to comply by the new rule.
As per it, all the online platforms would have to put the “country of origin” tag on all the products listed on their platforms. This would mean that soon you would see the ‘Made in China’ label on Flipkart, Amazon, etc when you see products like Chinese smartphones.
All the big players namely Amazon. Flipkart, Jio, etc have agreed to this new directive from the government. The move is part of an effort by the government to single out goods from China by making people aware of what is the country of origin of the product is. The e-commerce companies have asked for more time to incorporate the new requirement into their technology.
Since the anti-Chinese sentiments are high in the country after the loss of 20 Indian soldiers in border stand-off this can affect the sale of Chinese goods in India. Meanwhile, the Confederation of All India Traders is also raising the voice and reaching big industrialists to support a campaign to shun Chinese goods.
