EC Bans Roadshows After 12,876 New Coronavirus Infections, 59 deaths, In West Bengal 

On Friday, West Bengal reported 12,876 fresh Coronavirus patients and 59 deaths. This count takes the state to 7,13,780, as per the Health Department. In West Bengal, Kolkata reported the most number of cases (2,830) in a single day while the North 24 Parganas district recorded 2,585 new cases.

Now, with 59 deaths on Friday, the total death toll in West Bengal has reached 10,825. Out of these fatalities, 17 from Kolkata and 10 from North 24 Parganas. As per the state’s health department, 37 of the 59 deaths are caused by comorbidities where Covid-19 was incidental.

Since Thursday, more than 6, 000 patients recovered from Covid-19 which lead the cured people to 6,28,218. Still, the active cases are 74,737 in West Bengal.

Election Commission Bans Vehicle Rallies and Roadshows 

Due to an upsurge in the Covid-19 cases, Election Commission banned roadshows and vehicle rallies with immediate effect in West Bengal. EC said that implementing and following Covid norms were not possible during assembly election campaigns. Additionally, the election commission disallows public meetings with more than 500 people. 

Earlier, TMC and BJP conducted public meetings, rallies, and roadshows massively. They violated Covid-19 guidelines and safety measures during the rallies in the poll-bound state despite the order from the Calcutta High Court.
