On Tuesday, the Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) delayed the implementation of the order mandating the filing of PF returns with Aadhaar-verified UAN till September 1, 2021. The decision gives more time to employers to link their Aadhaar numbers with PF accounts. However, the earlier deadline for EPFO was June 1, 2021.
The Employee’s Provident Fund Organization’s office order stating that the date of filing ECR (electronic challan cum receipt or PF return) with Aadhaar verified UANs is extended till September 1, 2021.

The EPFO released an office order for all its field staff on June 1 saying that the electronic challan cum receipt or PF return shall allow filling only for those members, who linked and verified their Aadhaar with the UAN.
The notification said, “the central government hereby appoints the 3rd day of May 2021 as the date on which the provisions of section 142 of the said Social Security Code shall come into force.”

The Parliament of India passed the social security code last year. However, Section 142 offers employee identity through Aadhaar number for seeking benefits and availing services under the Code.
