In another case of police brutality and administrative insensitivity, a Dalit farmer couple was beaten to vacant the land. As per reports forms News 18, the couple was removed from a plot of government land allotted for a college in Guna city.
As per the videos and pictures going viral on social media, the police is seen beating the couple mercilessly before their children. The crops that the farmer family has planted in the area were also removed by the police. The crops were the source of livelihood for the family.
The couple was thus forced to attempt suicide drinking the pesticide. The images of the couple after drinking the pesticide with children wailing over their bodies and crying are heart-wrenching. The Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan meanwhile on Wednesday directed immediate removal of Guna’s DM and SP. As per reports, the situation of the couple is reported to be stable and they are said to be out of threat.
Meanwhile, the Shivraj Singh government which came after toppling Congress’s Kamalnath government at the start of the pandemic in March is under the hammer. Social media is furious with the government as many atrocities on Dalits have been done under Shivraj’s tenure as CM since the 2000s. There is a call for the removal of the CM.
