File Your Income Tax Return on Time: Deadline Extended to September 15, 2025
Filing an Income Tax Return (ITR) is mandatory for individuals earning above the set exemption limit. To help taxpayers avoid penalties, the Income Tax Department has extended the ITR filing deadline to September 15, 2025. This gives everyone more time to ensure their tax return is accurate and submitted without late fees.
Why You Need to Register on the Income Tax E-Filing Portal
Before you can file your ITR, registration on the official e-filing website is a must. This applies to both salaried employees and self-employed individuals. Registration benefits include:
- Filing returns is only possible once you are registered.
- Convenient access to services like refund tracking, downloading Form 26AS, and more.
- Linking your PAN with your profile for secure tax management.
- Easy tracking of previous filings, notices, and income tax communications.
- No need to make physical visits to tax offices—everything can be managed digitally.
Essentials for Registration on the Income Tax Portal
To get started with your ITR filing, you need just three things ready:
- A valid and active PAN (Permanent Account Number)
- An active mobile phone number

Keep in mind, if multiple family members have PAN cards, each PAN must be registered separately using their respective mobile numbers and email IDs.
