On Thursday India recorded its first omicron death in Maharashtra. The Omicron variant has spread in two more states, Bihar and Punjab.
India has recorded 16,764 Covid cases and 220 deaths in last 24 hours. The number of Omicron cases has increased to 1270.
But no deaths were reported due to Omicron until now.
Maharashtra confirmed that a 52 year old man who tested positive for Omicron strain of corona virus died of heart attack. The man was from Pimpri Chinchwad, Maharashtra. The government is saying that death has happened due to other underlying health problems that he had.

Maharashtra recorded 198 cases yesterday and it was highest number in one day for two consecutive days. This indicates that Omicron wave has spread in India and people need to be alert. Total number of Omicron cases has reached 450 in Maharashtra.
Omicron has spread to 24 states and UTs till now.
The man from Pimpri Chinchwad died at local Yashwantrao Chavan Hospital. He had a travel history to Nigeria and tested positive for Omicron variant of corona virus.
State Health Authorities are not labeling it as First Omicron Death. They are saying that he had diabetes for the past 13 years which caused his death.
Out of 450 Omicron cases reported in Maharashtra, nearly 46% don’t have an international travel history.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain has expressed serious concerns. In nearly 54% of Covid samples; Omicron has been detected in Delhi.
