Walmart-owned e-commerce giant Flipkart is all set to enter the food retail business in India to compete with Amazon, which has been expanding its food retail business in the country for a while. The announcement was made by Flipkart’s CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy.

Flipkart has registered a new entity, ‘Flipkart FarmerMart’, which will sell locally-produced and packaged food products directly to consumers, reportedly via both online and offline stores. Flipkart will invest as much as ₹1,845 crores in the same.
