Days after the arrest of a senior police officer in Jammu and Kashmir (JKP), the Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to take charge of all the police transfers and posting in the valley, including junior postings such as that of Station House Officers. MHA will also be involved in the “operational effectiveness of the police force” in the region and “capacity building” of JKP.

The decision comes after a JKP Deputy Superintendent of Police Davinder Singh, was arrested on January 11 while trying to escort two Hizbul Mujahedeen (HM) terrorists. Singh, in his defense, has told the interrogators that he has been a part of several covert operations for security agencies operating in Jammu and Kashmir. The claim is being verified as of now.
