Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch (RDAM) MLA Jignesh Mewani and Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Kanhaiya Kumar to join Congress on September 28 says the source.
Earlier, it was reported that both the young leaders would be inducted into the party by Rahul Gandhi on October 2 – Gandhi Jayanti. However, the induction got preponed to the birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, September 28.

Sources suggest that Jignesh Mevani is a Dalit leader and MLA from Gujarat’s Vadgam constituency might be seen working as a president of Congress’ state unit. On the other hand, Kanhaiya Kumar – a former president of the JNU students’ union may bolster the party’s Bihar unit with dynamic faces when he joins the Congress.
As per the reports, Kanhaiya Kumar has already held different meetings with Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to discuss his role in the party. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, he was contested from Begusarai but was pipped by BJP’s Giriraj Singh.
Meanwhile, Jignesh Mevani has praises lately for Congress, lauding the party’s decision to appoint a Dalit chief minister in Punjab.
