Holi is one of the most important Hindu festivals and it is quickly approaching. The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a ‘Holi Gift’ for women in preparation for Holi 2024.
The free LPG cylinder gift is for women living in Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad. This move follows Prime Minister Modi’s announcement of a Rs 100 per cylinder reduction in cooking gas costs on International Women’s Day.
As previously stated, an LPG cylinder would be provided free of charge to underprivileged women in Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad. According to a UP government representative, “The government decided to provide two free cylinders per year under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.” As part of this effort, the first cylinder was made accessible during Diwali, and the second cylinder would be distributed during Holi.”
The Uttar Pradesh government has allotted Rs 2,312 crore for the current fiscal year (2023-24) as part of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, and 1.75 crore beneficiaries in the state are receiving two free cylinder refills under this initiative.
The first phase (from November 1 to February 15) provided 80.30 lakh people with cylinder refills, while the second phase (from January 1 to the present) gave 50.87 lakh cylinder refills.
UP Govt Holi Gift by CM Yogi Adityanath
The UP government representative further stated, “A total of more than 1.31 crore cylinder refills have been distributed thus far under the scheme.” On November 10, 2023, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the initiative and at the same time sent the subsidy cash to the accounts of lakhs of Ujjwala beneficiaries.
This comes just weeks before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Following PM Modi’s Rs 100 reduction on March 8, public sector oil marketing companies reduced LPG cylinder pricing from Friday midnight. The price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder is Rs 803 in Delhi, Rs 802.50 in Mumbai, Rs 818.50 in Chennai, and Rs 829 in Kolkata.
