Free Ration Scheme Halted for Non-KYC Beneficiaries: What You Need to Know
This month, a large number of ration cardholders under the free ration scheme will not receive their food grains due to incomplete Know Your Customer (KYC) verification. The District Supply Office has stopped the food distribution for nearly 1.25 lakh adult beneficiaries who have not yet updated their KYC details. Out of around 20 lakh people in the capital who benefit from the scheme, nearly 3 lakh adults are still pending this process.
While ration supplies for adults without updated KYC have been withheld, children below the age of five, estimated to be about 1.75 lakh, continue to receive their food grains without interruption. District Supply Officer Vijay Pratap Singh has urged affected families to complete their KYC immediately by visiting their local ration dealer with their Aadhaar card.
How to Complete Ration Card e-KYC
Beneficiaries can finish their e-KYC either online or offline.
Online Process:
- Go to your state’s official Public Distribution System (PDS) portal.
- Look for the ‘e-KYC’ or ‘Ration Card Update’ section.
- Enter your ration card number and ensure that the Aadhaar-linked mobile number is active.
- Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile for verification.
- Once confirmed, your e-KYC details will be updated successfully.
Offline Process:
- Visit your nearest Fair Price Shop (ration shop).
- Request the dealer to start the e-KYC update through the e-PoS (Electronic Point of Sale) machine.
- Provide biometric verification like fingerprint scans for Aadhaar authentication.
- Once validated, your KYC process is considered complete.
New Distribution Timings and Server Issues
To curb misuse and irregularities by ration dealers, authorities have introduced fixed distribution timings in two shifts: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The e-PoS machines used for ration distribution will only function during these hours, automatically shutting down outside the allotted time.
Officials have also addressed complaints of slow servers during ration distribution and KYC updates. Vijay Pratap Singh explained that the system sometimes experiences delays due to simultaneous processes or local network issues. However, he assured that functionality has improved in recent days.
