Close to 25 crore people from across the country would be participating in ‘Bharat Band’ that would be observed tomorrow (that is 8th January) by various trade unions across the country.
The Bharat Bandh is being supported by trade unions such as INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, UTUC, who have decided to protest against the government’s policies. The resolution of Bharat Bandh was adopted by trade unions in September last year.

Privatization of major installations such as Air India and decision to sell Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), the merger of BSNL-MTNL, corporatization of 49 defense production units and privatization of railways are some of the issues put forward by the unions. Certain student organizations have also announced their support to Bharat Bandh against fee hike and ‘commercialization’ of education.
