Ghaziabad Gears Up for Smarter Roads with Integrated Traffic Management System
Ghaziabad is on the brink of a major traffic revolution as the Municipal Corporation, along with the Traffic Police, prepares to introduce the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS). The project is scheduled to go live by October 15 and aims to bring order, discipline, and safety to the city’s bustling roads.
Smarter Monitoring, Safer Streets
Under this new system, e-rickshaws will be limited to their designated zones, with a distinct colour-coded pattern to help officials and commuters identify them easily. Authorities believe this step will not only reduce congestion but will also make it easier to track offenders or even trace suspects during criminal investigations.
The ITMS will also connect traffic signals across the city to a central control room. This means that signals will automatically adjust between red and green, based on real-time traffic flow—reducing unnecessary delays and easing the daily commute.
High-Tech Surveillance for Better Discipline
To strengthen road monitoring, advanced cameras are being installed at 17 entry and exit points of the city, along with 41 busy intersections. These cameras are equipped with features such as automatic number plate reading, face recognition, speed detection, and red-light violation tracking. In addition, 134 more cameras, including high-zoom units, will provide round-the-clock surveillance to ensure better oversight across the city.
The central control room, built at a cost of ₹86 crore, will be managed jointly by the Traffic Police and the Municipal Corporation. Officials are confident that once operational, the ITMS will not only streamline traffic management but also significantly boost road safety, paving the way for a smarter and more disciplined Ghaziabad.
