Kamini was a Bengali poet, social worker and feminist who was an alumni of the University of Calcutta. Kamini was the 1st woman to have graduated with honours in the history of India. She pursued Sanskrit honours from Bethune College.

Roy was inspired by the works of Rabindranath Tagore and the writings of Sanskrit literature. Calcutta University awarded her with the Jagattarini medal.
One of her famous statements on feminism and women’s rights was that “Why should a woman be confined to home and denied her rightful place in society?”.
Mahasweta, Pundorik, Pouraniki, Dwip O Dhup, Jibon Pathey are some of her famous literary contributions.
